Driving Directions to Smugglers' Notch, Vermont
Smugglers' is easy to get to!
Major interstate highways provide easy access to northern Vermont. Highways are well-maintained for all seasons of travel.
Below are recommended driving directions from Boston, Montreal and New York City to Smugglers' Notch Resort. We do suggest you bring along a road map covering the areas in which you will be traveling. We've also included information on Traveling to and from Canada, Airline Carriers, Amtrak, Ground Transportation, and Car Rentals.
We have also noted some "strategic stopping points" where you'll find restaurants, gas stations and restroom facilities.
Note: The historic Smugglers' Notch Pass, on Route 108 between Stowe and Jeffersonville, is closed in the Winter and closed year around to motorcoaches, motorhomes and commercial vehicles.
When using an online trip planner or an onboard navigational system, please use the following address for Smugglers' Notch Resort. Please note that many of these services will route you through Smugglers' Notch Pass in the Winter when the pass is closed to all traffic. Boston to Smugglers' (approx. 4 hrs.)
Take I-93 N to Concord, NH. Pick up I-89 N through White River Jct. and Montpelier, to Waterbury, VT. Take Exit 10 I-89 in Waterbury, VT. Follow Vermont Rte. 100 N to Stowe. In Stowe pick up Route 108 N through Smugglers' Notch Pass, to The Resort located on the right side, about 4 miles from the top of the pass. Strategic Stops: Concord, NH; West Lebanon, NH; White River Junction, VT; Waterbury, VT. CLOSE Burlington to Smugglers' There are several options:
- Take I-89N. Take Exit 15 (Winooski) onto Route 15E through Essex Junction to Jeffersonville. Take Route 108 S to Smugglers' located on the left about 5 miles from Jeffersonville.
- Take Williston Road to Taft Corners and turn left on Route 2A. Follow to Essex Junction "5 corners" and take Route 15E to Jeffersonville.
- If you are coming from south of Burlington you can proceed via Route 7 to I-189 to I-89S. Take Exit 12 and follow Route 2A West to Essex Junction "5 corners" and take Route 15E to Jeffersonville.
CLOSE Burlington International Airport to Smugglers' (Approx. 35 miles or 45 minutes)
Upon exiting the Airport, turn left onto Airport Road. Then turn right onto Williston Road at the traffic light. Follow Williston Road to I-89N. Take Exit 15 (Winooski) onto Route 15E through Essex Junction to Jeffersonville. Take Route 108 S to Smugglers' located on the left about 5 miles from Jeffersonville. CLOSE Montreal to Smugglers' (approx. 2 hrs.)
Take the Champlain Bridge to Hwy. 10 E, continue 9 miles. Take Exit 22 for Hwy. 35 S. Hwy. 35 S merges with Hwy. 133 S in Iberville. Follow this route to the Vermont Border where it turns into I-89. Follow I-89 S to St. Albans. Take Exit 19 (2nd exit for St. Albans) onto Rte. 104 S. Follow 104 S through Fairfax to Cambridge. In Cambridge, pick up Rte. 15 E to Jeffersonville. In Jeffersonville take Rte. 108 S to the Resort (about 5 miles). Strategic Stops: St. Albans, VT; Jeffersonville, VT. CLOSE New York City to Smugglers' (approx. 6 hrs.)
Follow I-87 N (the New York Thruway). Just south of Albany, merge onto I-90 E via Exit 24 toward Albany/Montreal; Merge onto I-87 N via Exit 1N toward Albany International Airport/Montreal, continue on I-87 N (now called the Northway) to Exit 20. (The exit numbers start counting over again!) Pick up NY 149E to Fort Ann. Take US 4N through Whitehall crossing the Vermont border. Take Exit 2 for VT-Rte. 22A, toward Fair Haven and Vergennes. Pick up Rte. 22A N to Vergennes. Pick up Rte. 7N to South Burlington. Take I-189E to I-89N to Exit 15 (Winooski), take a right onto Rte. 15E through Essex Junction to Jeffersonville. Take Rte. 108S to Smugglers' Notch Resort, located on left about 5 miles from Jeffersonville. (Burlington to Smugglers' is about 30 miles) Strategic Stops: Albany, NY; Glens Falls, NY; Fair Haven, VT; Burlington, VT; Jeffersonville, VT. CLOSE New York City Popular Route (approx. 6 hrs.)
Take I-95 N from New York City to New Haven, CT. Pick up I-91 N through Hartford, CT, Springfield, MA; and Brattleboro, VT; to White River Jct., VT. At White River Jct., pick up I-89 N through Montpelier to Waterbury. Take Exit 10 I-89 in Waterbury, VT. Follow Vermont Rte. 100 N to Stowe. In Stowe pick up Route 108 N through Smugglers' Notch Pass, to The Resort located on the right side, about 4 miles from the top of the pass. Take Exit 10 I-89 in Waterbury, VT. Follow Vermont Rte. 100 N through Stowe to Morrisville. In Morrisville, pick up Rte. 15 W through Johnson to Jeffersonville. In Jeffersonville, pick up Rte. 108 S. Traveling to & from Canada
Beginning January 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizens 19 years and older who enter the U.S. at land and sea ports of entry from within the Western Hemisphere will need to present government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license as proof of identity, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate, or a passport. Children age 18 and under will be able to enter with proof of citizenship. Verbal claims of citizenship and identity alone will not be sufficient to establish identity and citizenship for entry into the United States.
U.S. resident aliens will also need a Green Card.
All other foreign country residents will need their valid passport with I94 document. If you are crossing the American/Canadian border and do not have your I94 document with you, you will need your valid passport and a visa. There will be a nominal fee to prepare the I94 documentation for you. Airline Carriers
If you don't feel like driving Burlington International Airport, in Vermont, is approximately 30 miles from Smugglers' Notch Resort, about a 45 drive. Car rentals are available at the Burlington International Airport via most major car rental agencies.

The closest depot to Smugglers' Notch Resort, is Essex Junction, Vermont, approximately 25 miles from the Resort, about a 40 minute drive. Airport/Amtrak Transfers
Ground transportation to Smugglers' is available via convenient shuttle service from Burlington International Airport and Essex Junction Amtrak Station.
Shuttle service must be confirmed at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled arrival time. Please confirm you departure arrangements at The Guest Service Desk during your stay. $45 per adult each way, one child (17 & under) per paying adult is free. Each additional child is $35 each way. Burlington International Airport has multiple car rental agencies both on and off site. It is recommended that during peak holiday time periods, or if you have a special request for specific size of vehicle, a reservation should be made in advance of your arrival in Burlington.
